Mr. and Mrs. Smith

From the very first preview I saw for this movie, I was intrigued: Take two top hitmen and marry them. Is it better or worse for the industry? Well, according to upper management, it isn't. To solve the problem, create a situation so they have a reason to kill each other. It seems like an action flick with guns, fist fights, and explosions. However, it is equal parts comedy. Cheesy lines infiltrate every scene. In the previews, Mrs. Smith shoots through a wall at Mr. Smith. Done firing, she calls out, "You alright, baby." Now, expand that type of dialogue to the entire movie. Actually, I might be inclined to categorize this film as romantic comedy (does this admission give away the ending?) rather than action. It's no "When Harry Met Sally," but it doesn't fit the Bond genre either. That said, I did enjoy the movie, but it's time to see a real action movie in "Batman Begins."

Ashton Kutcher's reality

Ashton Kutcher is a genious. I've never watched Punk'd, but the concept is intriguing. I never thought much of Kutcher in TV or movies until his latest production. One of only a few shows I am watching this summer, "Beauty and the Geek" on the WB is proving to be a must-see. Yes, it is a reality show. Even more, it is a social experiment that proves people are so much more than outward appearance. Where did he come up with such a concept?

Most reality shows rely on the stressful relations between players for their excitement. My favorite shows are those that focus more on what the individuals can learn or the sights they get to see. The early seasons of "The Amazing Race" featured both qualities, and the most recent seasons play on associations. Every season, I wish I was racing with them. Even though "The Mole" lasted just two seasons with regular Joes and two seasons with celebreties, I wanted to take part. It centers on deceit of a traitor, but I liked the puzzles that competitors had to solve. Now I add "Beauty and the Geek" to this short list of shows I would love to join.

Other reality shows I've enjoyed watching include "Average Joe" and "Joe Millionaire." If game shows count in the reality genre, also add "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" and "The Weakest Link." I've never watched a full episode of "Survivor," "American Idol," "The Bachelor(ette)," or "Big Brother."

New Jackson album forthcoming with acquittal

Seeing Michael Jackson declared "not guilty" after an extended trial, I speculated the real basis of the verdict. Over the week of deliberations, the jurors participated in Jackson karaoke and discussed their favorite songs. Finally tired of constant singing, the twelve sat down to debate the case for an hour after breakfast. Throwing out all 180 witness statements and 599 of 600 pieces of evidence, they easily came to a decision: Jackson had enough new experiences to create a new album. In order to release the album, Jackson could not be in prison making buddies with Charles Manson and Juan Corona. They had to let him go. The jurors anticipate this album to be bigger than Thriller and Bad combined. But they issued the verdict on one condition: Jackson must replace his nose with something more human.

Hitch

Will Smith doth not a blockbuster make...or does he? It seems that just the mere presence of Smith in a February movie made people flock to the theaters on its opening weekend. By the previews alone, I am not impressed. Even as the previews expand to give a larger glimpse of the plot, I have no intentions to see this one.

Arts & Entertainment

We will have lots of discussion about movies, music, theater, and people involved in those areas.
